In 2022, young girls are still auctioned off into marriage and sold for cows in South Sudan, according to a South Sudan activist, reported in AP.

Though South Sudanese law restricts legal marriage to those 18-yards-old and over, the law is rarely enforced, as many families seek to profit monetarily from their child's marriage.
